What Is
Partial Hospitalization?

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a mental health and substance abuse treatment program designed for patients with severe symptoms and behavioral struggles that act as a barrier to true healing. A PHP offers comprehensive clinical care outside of an Inpatient Program.

These treatment programs are ideal for transitioning from a residential program into a healthier daily routine and way of life. Patients work on themselves throughout the day, but they’re permitted to return to their homes in the evening, spend time with family, and sleep in their own bed.

PHP acts as an in-between for Inpatient Program and the Intensive Outpatient Program. Patients that are worried about feeling isolated but need more intensive treatment can commit to the program during the day. When the work is complete, they have an opportunity to spend time at home. Depending on the circumstances, you or your loved one may qualify for a more acute level of care than an Intensive Outpatient Program.

What Partial Hospitalization
Looks Like At Psyclarity

Partial Hospitalization begins with the admissions process. The patient is evaluated with a clinical assessment to understand the specific challenges they’re facing and develop a tailored treatment plan. Our Partial Hospitalization patients range from patients with substance use disorder to patients with mental health disorders to co-occurring disorders.

No matter the struggles, we’ll consider the options for therapeutic modalities, including individual or group therapy, to determine the best possible outcome for the patient’s goals. Along with evidence-based modalities, we include individual therapy and family therapy sessions with the patients and their family members to process past pain, learn to cope, and find healing and support together.

Some of our industry-leading modalities include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Family Therapy, and Co-Occurring Disorders. These treatment sessions are scientifically proven and research driven to address addiction and mental health issues with a treatment team.

We develop a personalized care plan and integrative approach that’s designed around the individual and their specific circumstances. Along with the knowledge and support of clinical staff, peers, and family, patients receive comprehensive care within a structured schedule of group and individual sessions before returning home in the evening. Our goal is to build a healthy recovery process that works toward sustainable sobriety and well-being.

Partial Hospitalization promotes feelings of safety, care, and accountability that’s paramount to taking control of one’s own life and health. If patients need intensive treatment without residential care, a Partial Hospitalization Program may be the ideal option.

If you or a loved one is eligible for the PHP program, contact our admissions team for a free and confidential consultation.

What Are The Benefits of
Partial Hospitalization Programs

PHP requires a commitment to healing, but without the restrictions of residential care. Patients are permitted to go to their own homes in the evening after completing daily care sessions.

During the day, patients have access to medical staff, a clinical care team, and behavioral health therapists. The entire team works within the tailored care plan to provide confidential and supportive individual and group therapy sessions.

Whether patients engage in family therapy or innovative treatment options like CBT or DBT, the experience centers around identifying unhealthy habits, developing new coping skills, and forging the path to a life of sobriety and positive mental health. Group therapy sessions offer an opportunity for patients to demonstrate progress with role-playing exercises and additional skill-building exercises.

At Psyclarity, we understand that recovery from addiction or substance abuse is a long-term process that evolves with you. We provide the resources, support, and guidance you need to reach your goals, both during the program and after, for sustainable relapse prevention and wellness.

As a part-time program, Partial Hospitalization also has a lower cost than full-time residential treatment. Patients also have an opportunity to learn coping skills and healthy behaviors with clinical support, which can then be practiced in their home environments. This provides a more natural transition back to sobriety and long-term recovery.

Partial Care: Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Here are some answers to the most common questions about partial care.

When Does Partial Hospitalization Program Start?

Partial care or partial hospitalization programs (PHP) occur in between inpatient and before outpatient treatment as needed. Recovery is designed to slowly and smoothly transition you into the next level of care with independent living as the goal, but there’s no set timeline for partial care at a treatment center. Your care team will monitor your progress and determine when partial care is appropriate.

How Long Does Partial Care Last?

Drug addiction recovery isn’t the same for everyone. The duration of a PHP program can be weeks or months, depending on your individual needs. You will have an expected timeframe outlined in your care plan, but that can be adjusted based on your progress. The most important factor is that you take your recovery at a pace that’s conducive to success, not rush through it.

What Is a Typical Day Like in Partial Care?

Partial care helps you transition from an inpatient or residential program into outpatient care. PHP includes daily therapies that are similar to what you experienced in inpatient treatment, but you have the freedom an independence to return home to to supportive living at the end of the day.

What If I Relapse in PHP?

If you’re struggling with the risk of relapse or begin actively using substances again while in PHP, speak to your care team immediately to determine next steps. Depending on the circumstances, you may need to be admitted into inpatient care or detox before returning to PHP.
