Get Support for Recovery with
New Jersey Drug & Alcohol Detox

If you’re struggling with the physical, emotional, and personal challenges of drug and alcohol addiction, you know how much there can be to overcome. Stopping isn’t a matter of willpower – the power of addiction can be too strong. If you stop suddenly, you can experience severe and often life-threatening symptoms and complications as your body is cleared of substances.

The longer you’ve been struggling with addiction, the more powerful it can be. The physiological effects include chemical imbalances with neurotransmitters, which can cause depression, poor responses to stress, uncontrollable mood swings, and uncomfortable physical symptoms.

An intensive drug and alcohol detox program gives you a safe, medically controlled environment to manage withdrawal symptoms with careful monitoring, medication assistance, and the support of clinical staff. As the symptoms subside, you can have a fresh start to address the mental and emotional effects for recovery.

You don’t have to go it alone.

What Is Drug &
Alcohol Detox?

Drug and alcohol detoxification, also known as detox, is a medically assisted process that allows your body to clear drugs and alcohol while minimizing the risk of severe complications. Without medical supervision, patients may experience potentially dangerous symptoms like stroke, seizures, or death.

Even if you want to quit on your own, it’s important to NEVER try to detox alone. Drug and alcohol addiction isn’t a failure of willpower – it’s a physiological hold on your body. The support and medical guidance of a clinical care team can keep you as comfortable and safe as possible while your body heals.

How Long Does
Detox Take?

Everyone’s detox experience is different. The length and severity of your addiction impacts the time for detox, as well as your health, family history, or any co-occurring disorders. Withdrawal symptoms can be moderate to intense, but they’re carefully managed by medical professionals. Generally, detox lasts about a week or less.

This process can be short and difficult, but it’s not the end of the journey. Like all chronic conditions, drug and alcohol addiction can be relentless. You may need additional rehab to control the last effects of addiction.

Get Your
Fresh Start

Detox is a challenging process, but it’s an essential first step for severe and debilitating drug and alcohol addiction. Our medical detox program is designed to manage the physiological effects of alcohol and drug addiction safely and effectively with the support of a clinical care team.

Once you complete drug detox, you can move forward into the next stage of your recovery journey to address the lasting effects and challenges of addiction and mental health. Our individualized plans are based on your specific challenges and goals, which may include Inpatient or Outpatient Treatment, Aftercare, Partial Hospitalization, or Sober Living.

The Stages
of Detox

Detox can vary between individuals, but we approach the evaluation with a standardized process to determine the nature of the addiction and the specific challenges for the individual. Patients undergo mental and physical health assessments from a clinical care team to develop a tailored substance abuse treatment plan. This may include details about the duration, intensity, and substances, family history, and medical history.

If needed, patients are stabilized to prepare for the detox process. Patients can go over what to expect from treatments, the possible side effects, and the medications involved in the process. This is an opportunity to ask questions and address any concerns

Possible Side Effects
of Detox

The detox experience is often different for each individual as their body adapts to no longer having drugs or alcohol. A range of symptoms are possible, including:

Anxiety and depression

Nausea and stomach pain, including vomiting and diarrhea

Flu-like symptoms, fever, body aches, running nose

Hallucinations

Seizures

Sweating

Heart Palpitations

Headaches

Patients are monitored through the entire detox process, including vitals like blood pressure, heart rate, fluid levels, temperature, and respiration. The medications and dosages may be adjusted as needed to manage symptoms and minimize the risks of complications.

The First Step
Starts with Psyclarity

Drug and alcohol addiction doesn’t often happen on its own. At Psyclarity, we take a holistic approach to address the whole patient and create a strategy for recovery. Detox is the first step, giving the patient a safe and confidential environment with supportive staff to cease the use of drugs and alcohol.

Once medical detox is complete, Psyclarity offers a range of treatment options for continuum of care, including Inpatient and Outpatient treatment, Partial Hospitalization, and Aftercare or Supportive Housing. These treatments include support systems and therapy to help patients address their mental health and substance use disorders and regain the autonomy they need to reintegrate into their new life.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Detoxing

Answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about detox:

Is it Important to Detox Prior to Treatment?

Detoxing is the first step in getting addiction treatment services from a drug and alcohol rehab. Being clean and sober of addictive substances allows you to be fully present for your recovery. Most drug rehabs will not admit those who are actively using into their programs.

How Long Does Detox Take?

You may need to stay at a detox center anywhere from days to weeks, depending on the levels of substances in your body and your withdrawal symptoms.

What Happens After Detox is Complete?

After you complete detox, you will be admitted to addiction recovery treatment. Whether you are a candidate for inpatient treatment (IP), partial care programs (PCP), intensive outpatient programs (IOP),  outpatient treatment (OP),  or another level of care  will depend on your individual circumstances. Speak with your provider for more detailed information.

Will My Health Insurance Cover Detox & Admission to a Rehab Facility?

Medicaid and most major insurance providers cover both detox and substance abuse treatment. During your consultation, our admissions specialists will confirm whether or not your insurance plan covers treatment.
