Addiction Treatment With Intention

Get Started with Recovery at Psyclarity’s Los Angeles
Drug & Alcohol Detox

Drugs and alcohol have physical and mental power over people. Stopping suddenly can result in severe and painful symptoms – sometimes life-threatening – as the drugs or alcohol clear the system.

The longer and more severe the addiction, the more brain chemistry is affected.

When neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine are imbalanced, patients can experience emotional instability and an unusual response to stress with mood swings and physical symptoms. Ceasing the use can be dangerous and could even lead to death.

An intensive drug and alcohol detox program is the optimal solution to manage withdrawal in a controlled environment and get a strong start to full recovery. Once the symptoms of withdrawal are addressed, you can take the next step toward managing the emotional and mental effects for a more successful sober future.

We’re here every step of the way.

What Is Drug &
Alcohol Detox?

Detoxification, or detox, is a medical process designed to safely clear drugs and alcohol from the system and control the effects of withdrawal. Ceasing the use of alcohol or drugs abruptly can lead to life-threatening complications, including death, which is why medically assisted detox is the premier treatment to provide physician care and support.

With the risks involved, detox should NEVER be attempted alone. Trying to overcome addiction with willpower simply isn’t an option. The experience may be different for everyone, but having a medical team can alleviate the severity of the symptoms to keep you safe and comfortable during the process.

How Long Does
Detox Take?

The experience of detox can vary between patients based on use, intensity, physical and mental health, family history, or other diagnoses. Withdrawal symptoms can be intense, but often subside within a week.

Detox is a quick process, but commitment to recovery is much longer. Addiction is chronic by its nature, so patients need to enter into additional rehab programs to address the mental and emotional effects.

You’re Not
Alone

Detox isn’t an easy process, but it provides a strong start to a healthier life. The detox program addresses the physiological effects of drugs and alcohol and prepares you for treatment to address underlying causes. Our clinical care staff will provide you with a safe and discrete environment and medical supervision for the best possible outcome.

Though it may be the most difficult, detox is the first step. After that, you have a range of options to choose from to treat your drug and alcohol addiction. Our individualized treatment plans help you manage the emotional and mental effects, from Residential Treatment to Aftercare and Sober Living, to reintegrate into your day-to-day life safely and confidently.

The Stages
of Detox

Detox is different for everyone, but the process to get started is similar. Patients are first evaluated by a clinical care team with mental and physical health assessments to learn more about the specific addiction, duration, intensity, and history. There are several phases of detox treatment.

Assessments may include blood tests to evaluate the levels of substances in the system and a mental health evaluation. When the evaluation is complete, physicians stabilize the patient and prepare them for the treatment processes in detox, including possible side effects and medications.

Possible Side Effects
of Detox

Everyone experiences detox differently. As the body adjusts to the absence of drugs and alcohol, there may be several side effects.

Anxiety and depression

Nausea and stomach pain, including vomiting and diarrhea

Flu-like symptoms, fever, body aches, running nose

Hallucinations

Seizures

Sweating

Heart Palpitations

Headaches

Our specialists monitor the patient’s vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, temperature, and fluid levels. Medications and dosages may be adjusted to address symptoms and prevent possible complications.

The First Step
Starts with Psyclarity

In addition to detox, Psyclarity offers Inpatient, Outpatient, Intensive Outpatient, and Partial Hospitalization to manage the challenges of recovery. Once patients successfully complete these programs, aftercare and supportive housing are available for coping skills, stress management, and support groups to reintegrate into the roles and responsibilities of daily life.

Detoxing: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about Partial Hospitalization Programs.

Will My Health Insurance Cover Treatment at a Detox Facility?

The majority of major insurance providers cover detox services, treatment for substance use disorder, alcohol rehab, and co-occurring disorders, including Medicaid.

Why is It Important That You Undergo Detox Before Admission to a Treatment Program?

Detoxing prior to beginning treatment is important for several reasons, ranging from your ability to partake in your recovery to the effect you may have on those around you if you are still using.

Most treatment facilities will not allow those who are actively using into their programs. Entering treatment substance-free allows you to fully focus on what’s important–your recovery–instead of battling the physical symptoms of withdrawal. Being substance-free in treatment is also beneficial for those around you, as someone who is actively using may trigger other program participants.

How Long Does the Detox Process Last?

Detox is unique to each individual. The medical detox process can range anywhere from days to weeks, depending on the substance, level of drug dependence, the amount of the substance in your body, and the severity of your withdrawal symptoms.

What Will I Do After I Finish Detox?

Once you have completed detox, the next step is admission to a  drug rehab center. Our providers will create a plan tailored to your individual needs and help determine whether or not inpatient care or outpatient care is the best next step for you.

Is It Necessary to Go Into Substance Abuse Treatment Immediately Post-Detox?

It is strongly advised that you enter immediately into treatment following detox. Admission to treatment right away will increase the chances of a successful recovery.

Help! I Relapsed After Detox. What Now?

Your recovery journey may not be linear. It is not uncommon to relapse after undergoing detox. If you find yourself actively using post-detox, speak with your care team about the best next steps in your recovery. Depending on your individual circumstances, you may need to undergo drug detox again.

If you or a loved one is suffering from drug addiction and need to detox before admission into a addiction treatment center, call and speak to a member of our team today to discuss treatment options.
