What Is
Partial Hospitalization?

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a mental health and substance abuse treatment program designed for patients who experience intensified symptoms, behavioral issues, and other undesirable side-effects and consequences of their circumstances. A Partial Hospitalization Program offers daily comprehensive clinical care outside of an Inpatient Program.

PHP programs are established as the most effective transition from a residential program into a new, healthy daily routine. Each night, the patient will be allowed to return home and sleep in their own bed and engage with their family members.

A PHP program is a step between an Inpatient Program and an Intensive Outpatient Program. Depending on the patient’s criteria, you or your loved one may qualify for a more acute level of care than an Intensive Outpatient Program.

What Partial Hospitalization
Looks Like At Psyclarity

During our thorough admissions process, each patient is evaluated on an individual basis to determine the best level of care for their unique situation. Whether they’re struggling with a Substance Use Disorder or other mental health disorders, a Partial Hospitalization Program offers dedicated and comprehensive clinical care to promote lasting recovery.

With group therapy and individual therapy, the patient will experience several hours a day of many evidence-based therapeutic sessions across a broad range of modalities. Part of our premium Partial Hospitalization Program includes family therapy sessions where the patient and their family members will have the opportunity to process, learn, and heal together.

At Psyclarity, some of our proven and industry-leading modalities include Experiential Therapy with active practices such as Art Therapy, Yoga, and Movement. We also offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, each a highly effective treatment for addiction and mental health concerns.

The depth of each patient’s personalized care plan will be designed based on their unique needs. Together with our clinical staff, their peers, and family members, patients will attend several hours within a set schedule of group and individual sessions each day. The goal is to facilitate a healthy recovery process and build towards sustainable sobriety and personal well-being.

We believe this structure provides the safety, care, and accountability patients need before they’re ready to become completely autonomous. For those who need immediate help but are not in need of residential care, a Partial Hospitalization Program may be a good fit.

To determine if you or your loved one meets the criteria for our PHP program, contact our admissions team today for a free and confidential consultation.

Benefits of
Partial Hospitalization Programs

PHP programs are the step down from residential care that gives the patient enough freedom to go home each night while also providing structured and comprehensive daily care.

At Psyclarity, patients will have regular access to medical staff, clinical care, and behavioral health therapists. They will experience confidential and supportive holistic health care through individual and group therapy sessions.

Through these sessions and treatments, each patient will be equipped with new coping skills to help them address and overcome addiction and mental health challenges. In group sessions, they will have the opportunity to put those skills to practice and apply them in role-playing.

We take addiction and mental health seriously. Every step of our recovery process is to provide sustainable relapse prevention and long-term personal wellness.

Our Partial Hospitalization Program comes with a lower cost than residential treatment and offers a more natural transition back into a sober and healthy everyday life.

Partial Care: Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Here are answers to the most common questions about partial care.

Does Health Insurance Cover PHP?

Most major insurance companies cover some of all of addiction treatment, including PHP. Every policy is different, however, so there may be stipulations to approve coverage for PHP. Discussing your eligibility will be part of the admissions process.

What Stage in Recovery Is PHP?

PHP is a step between inpatient care and intensive outpatient care or outpatient care. Before PHP, your care team may recommend you enter into a residential program, but no two recovery plans are exactly alike.

How Will I Know if It’s Time for a Transition from Inpatient to PHP?

If you’ve completed an inpatient program and you don’t feel that you’re ready for outpatient care, PHP may be recommended. Your recovery plan and progress are always monitored by your care team, so you can rest assured that you will be ready for the transition when the time comes.

How Long Do I Have to Be in PHP?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution to any recovery program. The PHP timeframe may depend on several factors, including the intensity of addiction, your support system, how you manage co-occurring disorders, and your history of past treatment and relapses. Your compliance with the program and your motivation to succeed also play a role in how long the treatment will last.

What Therapies Are Part of PHP?

Each level of care includes similar modalities to ensure that you’re on track with your recovery plan, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and group therapy. But with a PHP program, you will participate in these therapy sessions at set times during the day then return home in the evening to spend time with family and sleep in your own bed.

What Happens After PHP?

PHP is one stage in the recovery journey. You don’t have to finish your treatment when PHP is complete – it’s designed to step down into a lower level of care with more freedom, such as intensive outpatient programs (IOP) or outpatient programs. You’ll still have access to therapy and treatment but with the flexibility to manage day-to-day responsibilities. This is all designed to transition you into everyday life slowly and confidently.

What If I Relapse?

If you’ve relapsed or you feel you’re at risk of relapse – no matter your level of care – it’s important to let your care team know as soon as possible. You may be readmitted into an inpatient program or detoxification, depending on your circumstances. Relapse isn’t uncommon, but we’ll give you the tools and resources to combat the risk of relapse and stay sober.
