Healing for Life. Care With a Purpose.

You Deserve Healing.
Healing Starts with Psyclarity.

Both drugs and alcohol come with physiological and mental addiction, including significant withdrawal symptoms. It’s not a matter of willpower – stopping suddenly can lead to severe withdrawal and potential complications that can be life threatening.

Long-term drug and alcohol use affects brain chemistry, altering the balance of serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters are responsible for emotional stability and stress responses, causing mood swings and abnormal physiological responses. When drugs and alcohol are suddenly stopped, the reaction can be dangerous – not to mention the lasting effects that put you at risk for relapse.

Intensive detox is a solution to manage the physical withdrawal symptoms of drug and alcohol use and help you get a fresh start for your next phase of addiction treatment. The symptoms of drug and alcohol withdrawal are managed with a medical team to keep you safe and comfortable, setting you up for success.

We’re here to help you with the first step.

What Is Drug &
Alcohol Detox?

Detox, also known as detoxification, is a medical process to clear drugs and alcohol from the body as part of a recovery program. Because suddenly stopping the use of drugs and alcohol can lead to significant withdrawal symptoms – and possible death – medically assisted detox is used to monitor and support the patient and avoid serious complications.

Detox should always be performed under medical supervision in a treatment center. Stopping on your own is extremely dangerous. Everyone has a different experience, but having a medical team to manage your detox symptoms ensures you’re comfortable, safe, and protected as substances clear the body.

How Long Does
Detox Take?

Drug and alcohol detox varies. Every individual experiences detox differently, based on their use, duration, intensity, physical health, family history, and any co-occurring disorders. Withdrawal symptoms may subside after a week, but it depends on the individual.

The time spent in detox is minimal compared to the treatment for the underlying causes of substance abuse and the commitment to addiction recovery. Addiction causes long-lasting changes that could prompt a relapse, which is why patients may enter into Inpatient or Outpatient drug treatment. These plans are tailored and may include supportive counseling, family therapy, support groups, and therapeutic modalities Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Response (EMDR).

You Don’t Have to
Do It Alone

Drug detox can be a difficult experience, but it provides a “fresh start” to address the physiological effects of drugs and alcohol and get you on a healthy road to recovery. Our skilled clinical care team provides you with safety, confidentiality, and medical supervision to address your symptoms and help you to the other side.

After you complete detox, the next step is up to you. There’s no linear path to recovery from drugs and alcohol, which is why we work with you to develop a holistic, tailored treatment plan to manage the long-term emotional and mental effects with evidence-based modalities and therapy.

The Stages
of Detox

Before detox begins, patients are evaluated by a clinical care team with mental and physical health assessments to determine the addiction, health, and other factors and develop a tailored treatment program. During detox, the patient undergoes several phases of treatment.

Some of the assessments include blood tests to determine the levels of drugs and alcohol. The patient’s mental state is also evaluated by medical professionals, as well as the history of substance use and any co-occurring disorders. When the evaluation is completed, physicians will stabilize the patient and prepare them for the treatments involved in detox and substance abuse treatment. This typically includes an in-depth discussion of the process and any side effects that may be expected.

Possible Side Effects
of Detox

The detox experience is different for every patient. The first few days are often the hardest as the body adjusts to the absence of drugs and alcohol.

Anxiety and depression

Nausea and stomach pain, including vomiting and diarrhea

Flu-like symptoms, fever, body aches, running nose

Hallucinations

Seizures

Sweating

Heart Palpitations

Headaches

Throughout detox, our specialists will monitor the patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, temperature, and fluid levels to manage symptoms and prevent complications. Medications and dosages may be added or adjusted as symptoms arise.

Take the First Step
with Psyclarity

At Psyclarity, we focus on the whole patient and the full range of care, starting with detox at our addiction treatment center. We address your treatment needs with the utmost privacy and discretion to help you focus on the challenges of overcoming addiction in a safe and confidential environment.

Patients can undergo medical detox and transition into additional treatment programs for drug and alcohol rehab like Inpatient, Outpatient, and Partial Hospitalization in our recovery center to continue to manage the difficulties with sobriety. Once completed, patients have the option to enter into aftercare programs or sober living for continued care and relapse prevention. This is where patients develop coping skills and stress management techniques to prepare for their new sober life.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Detox Processin an Addiction Treatment Program

Answers to commonly questions about detox and the detox process in a treatment facility:

Why Do You Need to Detox Before Treatment?

Detox is the highest level of care and the very first stage in recovery for drug addiction or alcohol addiction. When you undergo detoxification, you remove the addictive substances from your body so that you enter your rehab program ready to participate in your care. Going to alcohol or drug rehab without having to manage the physical symptoms of withdrawal allows you to approach mental health and wellness with more clarity and sets you up for long term success.

How Long is the Detox Process?

The detox process may last anywhere from days to weeks, depending on the substance, the amount of substance in your system, and your withdrawal symptoms.

What is the Next Step After Detoxing?

After you have completed the detox process in a detox facility, you will be admitted to a treatment program in a rehab center. Your clinical care team will determine whether you are a candidate for outpatient care, residential or inpatient treatment, or something else.

It is crucial that you enter inpatient rehab or outpatient rehab immediately after detox so that you have the best chance at a successful recovery and management of drug use.

What Happens if You Relapse After Detox?

Whether or not you have to undergo the detox process again after using depends on several factors. If you begin using drugs or alcohol again after detox, speak with your care team to discuss the best treatment options for you.
